A collaborative image build, bouncing from one player to the next.

VolleyShop is a place for noncompetitive, group or individual image creation.

Players provide one or multiple images and then work on the images either in sequence or by themselves. Improve your skills, learn how others work and dive into the game.

Players Guidelines for VolleyShop:

These are guidelines only. They represent a good starting point for a VolleyShop match. They game can be altered or enhanced with different rules as long as the players agree before the match begins.

One match per thread.

Matches are often named by Match number and concept goal. Example: Match 1, Dreams.

Players that wish to participate in a specific match post their name and e-mail address within the Match thread to indicate they are ready to play.

Each player has set time to complete their volley from the date/time of the last player’s post.

No response or a "Pass" sends the "ball" to the next player. If a player knows that they can’t take the ball a "Pass" post ,as early as possible, is considered polite.

Number of volleys and match length can be varied based on the number of players. A two player match may benefit from multiple volleys. Matches with many players benefit from fewer volleys per player.

Matches can begin when a team of qualified players is assembled and all players agree on the type of game to be played. When this has been met a player posts a "Got it" reply in the thread to start the play. To take the next revision a player posts a "Got it" reply before the current revision is complete. "Got it" replies can be posted at any time during the build and determine the sequence of player participation. The only exception to this sequence is when a player posts a "Pass" and then the next player in the "Got it" list is up next.

In consideration of the other players in the game "passing" is discouraged. If you must pass notify the other players as soon as possible. When a player has to pass a new player can opt into the game by adding their name/e-mail to the players list and posting a "Got it" reply.

Often, each player adds one layer to the traveling composite. The new layer can be merged from multiple layers, illustrated or scanned but when sent to the next player only one new layer should be added to the composite.

Previous player’s work should be integrated/viewable after each volley.

To complete their volley, each player should post a JPEG version of their image revision in the match thread within the agreed upon time and forward their revised .PSD file as a compressed ZIP to the next player’s e-mail address.

Player’s are encouraged to give a quick explanation of their edits when they post their flat, JPEG, version to the thread.

Spectators are encouraged to give feedback on each revision.

Anyone can propose a match. To propose a match a member creates a new thread in the VolleyShop Forum with the match name in the title and concept goal (if there is one) in the body of the thread. In the thread they should also attach an image with a pixel count of approximately 300 in either in either the vertical or horizontal dimension.

Generally, the key to a successful concept, is that all players can recognize the goal and that it is wide enough to allow for individual creativity.

Also, keep in mind, that as a collaborative image build, no one player has complete control over the resulting image. So have fun with your part and let go of it. It can be both impressive and surprising where these things will go.
