I am seeing some strange artifacting in PS CS when I adjust the levels on my images. Especially high-key areas where the pixels go all the way to white. I've never seen this with PS 7.01, nor can I find any mention of it anywhere online.
Ive disabled the "out of gamut" warning, thinking that was the problem, however the blue/cyan pixels persist.

Any solutions?

Thanks!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that "out of gamut" refers to when you're working for PRINT and in CMYK mode. Do you get the same problem when working in both CMYK and RGB modes?

Does the button located under the OK one read "reset"?

I say this because usually, in levels, if one pushes on the ALT key, there is a gamma warning, and also the "cancel" button becomes the "reset" one...

You may have the ALT key down, of a problem with your modifier keys (usually, some third-party program causes trouble)

This artifact would'nt persist in the image if it were an out of gamut warning, unless the image above is a screen capture.

Any luck with this VegasRyan?

Sofar no luck in correcting this strange behavior.
On Monday I plan to contact Adobe,to see if they have any record of this problem, and a solution to it.

the problem not only persists on screen, but is IN the values of the pixels, not just display phenomena. They read as greenish/cyan in the color picker. The file will save with these errant pixels.

They are likely to tell you to toss/create a new prefs file. That would be my next try.

The Red channel is obviously going funky. If the math is hitting null rather than peaking at 255, you'll get zero return. Resetting prefs is probably best. Hold down Ctrl-Shift-Alt on startup.

To save what you can of these images, go to your green channel, copy it to a new layer, and set the blending mode to luminocity. Hold alt and add a layer mask, and airbrush white with a soft edge and a low setting over the cyan spots until they disappear.
