Hello. I'm new here, so I hope I posted in the right forum...

I was wondering if it was possible to make elemental hand FX (e.g. ball of fire or water) like those presented in the following pictures.

These were created in Bryce. A feasible task for Photoshop? If so, how?

Thank you in advance. :)

Welcome to PST!

YES, everything is feasible in Photoshop. how fast is the real question :D

Look at this thread for an effect very similar to what you ask : http://www.photoshoptechniques.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3122

Eh, not quite what I'm looking for. But I appreciate your help.

Basically, I'm looking for a tutorial that will help me acheive either those pictures in the aforementioned links or these:

I tried asking the artist, but I think he doesn't want to reveal his "secrets"... ::shrugs::

artist? more like a magician! :D j/k

Anyway, are you looking to draw the hands too?

Or just random 'powers' coming from the hands?

I think if you just fiddle around long enough you can do anything. But don't take my word for it, wait for more to respond.

the link I gave you points to a gooey effect, to make the basis of the effect that can be modified (blending modes, advanced blending options, different colors) to become transparent and glowing. Check also http://marengo.neopages.net/tutorials/fairy.htm for good glow-like settings that could be applied. Natalie is a member here, I hope that she will visit use soon...

Of course, the effects that you show us are volumetric, so it is harder to reproduce in Photoshop... but it would make a good challenge...

On the same wavelenght: http://www.xboxps2forums.elixant.com/tuts/Phantom%20Light.htm could be a good starting point... the owner of the site is a member here, Vicious 101

The "Unity" picture effect can be easily done with a software called Combustion. It has a particle system that allows you to do all sorts of effects like that, but I think you should get version 3 or later to be able to do that.

I think you should get into 3D Animation/Modeling/Composition,etc. if you want to do that, because it was done either with 3DS Max, Poser or Bryce.

Edit: I've tried to do something like that and I came up with this:

Ignore mind the knife :| or whatever that looks like to you.

I know it's not the actual effect, but what I did took me about 5 seconds,so with a little more tweaking,I'm sure it can look better. Just imagine those particles coming out of somebody's hand. I didn't have time to model one,so you'll have to use your imagination.
