first post here but thought I'd just throw in an idea :) I quality check through hundreds of restored photos per day in photoshop for a large restoration company and for every single pair (before and after) I go into the 'Window' menu and click documents -> tile... to get them side by side for comparison. Unfortunately it does not seem possible to create a keyboard shortcut for this and it would be so, so helpful because although a few clicks is not much it would actually speed up my work allot when having to do it so many times in one day!
If in fact this is possible in PS7 then any advice would be hugely appreciated.
many thanks, Jon.

This may be a good supporting reason to upgrade to Photoshop CS (if you're looking to do so) since PS CS will allow you to assign your own keyboard shortcuts to any application menu, palette menu, or tool command.
Also, if you're using windows, you could always use the standard windows keyboard shortcuts by typing:
ALT W (to open the Window Menu)
A (to select the Arrange Submenu)
T (to select the Tile menu item)
You could also create an action with the menu commands but I don't believe there's a way to apply a keyoard shortcut to the action in PS7, but hopefully I'm wrong on that. But that would save you a step or two.
Good luck and welcome to PST!

Looks like Cloud's already taken care of you, jon, but welcome aboard. I took a look at your site- great stuff on there. I added your photos to my favorites list. Cheers. }_

actually, you can include menu items in actions, and you can choose one of the function keys (along with modifiers ctrl, alt, shift on PC, dunno Mac) to trigger it.
Check the help files for further information, but I bet, knowing it can be done, that you can bang your way through it just by opening the actions panel and selecting "New Action"
Welcome to the boards, jonkane! Glad to have you here.
If you need help with getting your actions under control, just post to the General section - we'll get you the info you need ;}

In addition to what's been said, I'd add that PS CS has the ability to match the pan and zoom of several images, unbeatable to compare images!
See the screen capture named "match zoom" at http://www.photoshopuser.com/photoshopcs.html

awesome thanks all for your replies, a truly great forum this is... the match zoom and location features in CS sound perfect for what I do! sounds like I'll have to convince the pockets at work to purchase PS CS. Oh and cheers WFDesign, glad you enjoyed my photography, it's funny because for all the work I do in PS, all my photography there is straight from the scan... I'm dying to start experimenting when I find the time.

Opps, I didn't even welcome you to PST!
Very nice pictures I like your sister... :| I mean, I like the pictures you've done of your sister... they have like a road movie feeling... the strong light through the window make me think of a restaurant along road 66...
cool thanks sPECtre, I shot those with natural light bounced only off those car windshield reflectors you can buy for dirt cheap, simple but effective... yeah my sister came out well in those shots, I'm sure that's what you meant :'

Just for kicks....
In CS I made a custom workspace with tools only showing (pressed shift tab) and named it.
Then opened the 2 documents I want to compare and made a new action. First I used the Insert menu Item to record "Window>Arrange>Tile". Then recorded my custom workspace. Then I had to stop recording but couldn't since my Actions palette was hidden. So I had to record Reset Palette Location, Stop recording, then delete that step.
So, now I have a f-key that tiles 2 images and hides the other palettes. Cool. Using Shift and the spacebar to scroll both images at once - very cool!
Now if CS would tile the images vertically like it used to in ver 7 :(

Dave, AFAIK, they are fixing this hopefully for the .01 release...
