Post an example or two of what you've done and I'm sure we'll be able to offer you some guidance. Oh, and welcome to PST!

Well i know its kinda hard to see, but look at Bishop's (the guy on the left) right eye. There is an "M" over it. Kinda looks like a scar. I want to mimic this, but on a real photograph. It's sorta that "cut in with a knife" scar.

Welcome, RiseAgainst.
I think what bigcloud means is to post an example of how far you have gotten on the effect, and then we can tell you some steps for where to go from there.
I can tell you right now, it's not going to be a lot of Filters, it will involve either painting on, or photomanipulation.

Jon,
Do you know what thread it was that we were "beating up" a guy's face? I tried searching for it but with no success. Maybe some of the techniques used there might be condusive to creating a scar.

This one? (http://www.photoshoptechniques.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3618)
I couldn't find it by searching either, weird. For future reference, though, I found it in the Photoshop Challenge Forum.

How about an alpha channel with the scar shape painted on it, and then use lighting effects to make it stand out the desired amount?

Yes it might work, but you need the scar alpha channel..

I think that would be ethically improper...I mean why ruin a good photo by cutting it up..??
that's not what you meant?

I saw a tutorial many moons ago that was for a scar effect. It involved using a picture of frayed carpet edges, I forget now the url, but if I find it or anyone else remembers please post here.
