This is my first tutorial EVER! So please if it sux tell me lol.

Requirements:
1) Adobe Photoshop
2) Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
3) A Scanline pattern fill (if u dont know how to make one, CLICK HERE (http://www.quantum-nd.co.uk/tutorials/scanlines.zip), stop following this tutorial and get back to learning the basics.)
4) The Stock pics / textures below

click the images to get the stocks u need for this tutorial.

note: i will be using the thumbs as the imgs in the tut to save the 56kers on the board some time :-)

Step 1
take http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/ehTHUMB.jpgand duplicate it. Then go to the 1st layer (the original picture) and click Image>Adjustments>Desaturate [Shft+Ctrl+U] to desaturate the image.
Then take your burn tool... this takes some experimenting.... and add a little bruising. dont overdo it or it will look very fake. After you are done adding bruises. go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise use your own judgement here with the noise. the noise is just to roughen the image up a bit. this is also where you can remove her earring if you want.
my image after completing this step: http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/manip1THUMB.jpg (http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/manip1.jpg)

OOPS! forgot a vital step. Take the colored layer of the girl's face and put it ontop of the desaturated one. Set that blending mode to overlay :-)

Step 2
now take http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/stone1THUMB.jpg (http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/jimfear-stock--00059.jpg) and add it onto a new layer ontop of the black and white layer and below your color layer. set the blending mode to Linear burn and the opacity to 61%. Now grab your eraser and get to erasing. i erased a LOT of this layer as its used mainly for a few long, thin, deep cracks :-D

sorry no image for this step. as the pass to my host's ftp has been changed

Step 3 very very easy steps so im combining them
take http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/mudTHUMB.jpg (http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/mud.jpg) and place it on top of ALL layers and set the mode to MULTIPLY. now take http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/stone1THUMB.jpg (http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/jimfear-stock--00059.jpg) and (yes gain) and place it on top of all the layers and set the mode to opacity. Get the eraser out (again) but this time erase just about everything EXCEPT an area around her eye, [also erase where her eye is on this layer]. Next take http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/stone1THUMB.jpg (http://joypadgaming.com/krypto/jimfear-stock--00059.jpg) (AGAIN) and duplicated it above all layers. set the opacity to 59% and the blending mode to overlay.

Your image should look about 99% done. touch up where needed (their may be a bar at the top of the image that doesnt look good. just take a normal brush and on a new layer (above all layers lol) and fill it in with black [DO NOT USE THE PAINTBUCKET]

to do they scanlines, make a new layer, fill it with ur scanline pattern. go to filter>noise>add noise. set this layer to overlay.

peace. hope u enjoyed this. :-D have fun

Looks interesting, but could you post a little larger FINISHED image, so we have a better idea what it is we're making?
Thanks!

Also, I see in step 3 that you mention to set the blending mode to opacity... isn't it "to overlay"?

Thanks for sharing!

Nice start, but I would recommend taking out the scan lines and watching the amount of gray saturation. Those are some sweet stock textures, by the way.

If it is the pic that Babble found, then I agree with '9' that you should get rid of the scanlines...

Just an FYI...tutorials, trial or not, ALWAYS are received better with a Final Image...you should post that right along side the images to work with...

Also, being as you say these are 'stock' images, you shoud cite your sources for copyright purposes. Even 'stock' images have copyright regs regarding their purpose...at the very least, they usually request source citing of where you got them.

Stop by the Photomanipulation Challenge (http://www.photoshoptechniques.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4704) I started up in the PS Challenge Forum... I played around with your source images as well as some of my own for this piece. Are they your source or someone else's? I hate to have the original artist not recieving credit, even if it's just an exercise.

Hi, using Your tutorial as a starting base and adding elements and escluding others I came up with the attached image. I ask You, Krypto, if I can write a tutorial of my attached image (that will published at www.digitalvalve.net, learning section) and if I can use Your images.

Thank You in advance;}

Hi ApWizard... the source images he provided aren't his, but rather another artist's images he lifted off of the internet somewhere. Probably not in your best interest to publish any pieces you made with the source on your site.

On the other hand, we'd love to hear the tut over in this thread (http://www.photoshoptechniques.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4704). Nice image btw.

sorry but i've not understand your reply:] (very sorry, i'm italian and i don't know English very well)...you think i haven't to publish a tutorial because i've not the source images? or i can publish the turial linking the source image from the original place?(|}

Kyrpto does not hold the copyright to the images... they are not his. I do not suggest uploading the image that you made with the images Krypto provided because the original artist never gave permission to use the images in the first place.

We've used them around here for practice, but were never intended on being used for profit or personal publicity.
