Batch - file info problem:

My apologies for length and perhaps less than riveting subject matter..however:

As was the case, unfortunately, with CS2, when in Bridge adding file info. to multiple files, the data entered within Copyright Notice, Copyright Status and Copyright Info URL is shown as entered and correct when checking back the file info. via Bridge.

However, if one of those files is then opened in Photoshop and the file info. is checked, the data entered is either incomplete or simply not being shown.

The problem seems to be exclusive to working working on TIFFs. When working with JPEG it does not.

Process:

1) Bridge - Adding file info.

- Select multiple files.
- Right click > File info
- Enter file info. data.
- Click ok.

2) Bridge - Checking file info.

- Select one of the files file info. has been applied to.
- Right click > File info.
- Check info. panels for correct data.
- All appears correct and as entered.


3) Photoshop - Checking file info.

- Open one of the files file info. has been applied to.
- Check file info:

i) Having chosen Copyrighted as the option within Copyright Status, now appears untouched and defaults to Unknown!!

ii) Data entered within Copyright Notice appears incomplete, showing only the first sentence and a half. (i.e 22 words, 107 characters (no spaces) 128 characters (with spaces)

iii) Data entered within Copyright Info URL does not appear.


I wrongly assumed this would have been sorted for CS3?!#0

I'm simply putting this out for general discussion as I figure this is a bug that will not be fixed until the next edition of PS, if then..:[

Having contacted Adobe via Customer Support they have said that Engineering have logged the issue but with no more information on cause / fix / workaround etc, etc.

Any feedback on this issue would be greatly appreciated, a fix or smart work around that I am not aware of would be even more appreciated!!

* Back in the old days before Bridge or the File Browser, one would write actions that added the required text metadata. One could then batch the action to files or include it in a "save to TIFF" F-Key action or whatever.

* Instead of using TIFF for the master file, one could use PSD so that derivative copies saved to other formats would inherit the metadata (granted that TIFF has better compression using ZIP).

* You mention only TIFF and JPEG files in regard to your metadata issue. What about other formats that support this metadata, do they have the same problem? One could save files into a temporary lossless format such as PSD and then apply the metadata in Bridge to multiple files. If this is honoured by Photoshop, then the Image Processor script or a custom batch action would be used to save to TIFF (then trash the intermediate files).

* Use other software for your metadata entry.
