OK, I think the answer to this question is a resounding 'NO' but I need to ask anyway...

Is there someway to export work from Illustrator or Import Illustrator work into Photoshop and retain Spot colour information?

Spot colours... hmm. Well when you spell 'color' correctly, you get lots of hits on Google:
illustrator import photoshop "spot color"

:D

Here is the first result I found. (http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.asp?p=23691&seqNum=3&rl=1)

kidding about the spelling, incidentally... I spell it the 'wrong' way, too.

That article Lokki links to is from 2001, and things have changed considerably since then as far as getting a color-consistent workflow between the apps in the CS* suite.

You may want to have a look at the following PDF referencing CS3:

You also may want to poke around the Adobe Illustrator forum...I've seen some threads there that deal with this.

Retain spots... No. :)

Because of the way Photoshop handles Spots there just is no way to get PS to read AI spots. One thing I haven't tried (which may or may not work) is to import as a smart object then output.. I don't know if Smart Objects will retain their spot colors. I doubt it though.

Cheers Scott, That's what I figured but thought I'd ask incase there was something I was missing.

Thanks Phosphor, unfortunately our client dictates we work in Illy CS... go figure. I could import into CS2 to export for PS but CS3 is a lifetime away as far as we're concerned.
