Hi all....been lurking psT for a while and have enjoyed tremendiously, unfortunately it has taken a problem for me to sign up and post, so apologies for that....

So I am hoping somone may be able to assist, help, or just put me out of my misery......lol

I created a file in PSCS2, it is a pretty large file, a scaled project of 10:1 and as such has to be done at 750dpi.

Spent 2 to 3 days working with this file, and when I went to open it today it comes up with....

"Could not complete your request because the file is not compatable with this version of Photoshop"

Now thats a bit hard to beleive as it is the actual program that it was created in...no updates, no changes, nothing since I last saved and closed...

The compatability option was ticked as well......

Does anyone have any ideas regarding this? experienced it before? Ideas???? Any help will be greatly appreciated, as the work involved to do it all again is daunting enough, let alone trying to get it the same....!!!!

I doubt it is a RAM problem as I am running 2.5GIG worth!

Pulling what hair I got left out, and since this is for a client...I am going postal!! 5||

Just a shot in the dark here, but that happened with me a couple of years ago when I accidentally renamed the file type. I keep my filetypes showing in my Windows Explorer (personal preference) and went to rename a file and named it something like (for example) apple.pse instead of apple.psd. The file would not open until I browed to that window, right clicked on the file, and renamed it with ".psd". Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply Dewayne, but no, it is definately a psd extension...

Nothing had been touched, changed, or altered since I last opened it.

I have since tried to open it in Jasc PSP 9 at a mates house, but it wont open due to size of the image (not enough memory)

Doesnt look too hopeful for me atm....

just a thought but have you tried renaming the file?

Some corruption when you saved the file. Ouch...
I hope that you made incremental saves...

Even if you've checked it, rename it. Does not matter what: whatever.psd (if a PSD) or whatever.jpg if so..
I just read it on another forum..

Working on a file that MATTERS...
Save As matters01.psd
Put two hours into modifying -
Save As matters02.psd
etc, etc, etc.

(it doesn't matter, until it MATTERS - then it is critical)
Google Search for File Corruption
http://www.google.com/search?q=file+corruption&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

File corruption will never be an issue (usually) with a file created and finished in 10 minutes...
It CAN and MOST likely show up in a (large) file that is opened, worked on, and saved (NOT Save As) many times.
THIS IS A COMPUTING RULE!!!
