Glossy Finish over Thumbnail

I'm trying to achieve a glossy finish effect over a thumbnail of a screenshot. I was inspired from the way mac uses this effect in its UI and other designs I have come across on the internet. To replicate this effect I used the eliptical marquee tool to make a transparant white elipse over the top of the image. This seems to be a start but I am looking for something more realistic, with depth and not as flat as this looks. I know how to make this effect with solid colors but its proving to be a challenge to make it look real with a detailed image beneath Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Try a gradient that goes from 10 to 50 % opacity so there will be a gradual change in it.
