Thrasherguy, don't make threats on a public forum, even if you're only joking.

Auto-save is fairly simple on apps like Word or Avid where the amount of data involved is very low. Photoshop is already very process intensive, using up CPU cycles, hard-drive space and RAM, without adding auto-save. Look up versioning and alternates in the manual.

I know plenty of apps that do not have auto-save. Manually saving your work after significant changes is a habit you must cultivate. Blaming an app for losing "many hours" of work won't cut it with the boss when he wants to know why a project isn't done.

Many people save after a certain time (lose an hour's or a day's work) or after major changes (and save incremental files - myfile01.psd, myfile02.psd, etc)

Oh yeah...four hours into it (without a single save! Duh!) power flickers and screen goes blank.

Almost the first G5 in space...

You know battery backups costs about $50 for a cheap one that will run your pc and monitor for about 5 minutes. Usually plenty of time to save what you are working on.

I usually save fairly regularly... the problem I've had is actually the "I saved over something I needed accidentlly". Working with too many files, make a change, then hit save only to realize while you're watching the computer save and close the document that you deleted a layer you need or something.

yea, i was about ready to say, they should have a program, and if they don't someone would be rich makin one that would auto save, kinda with like a 5-10-15-30-60 minute timer on it or something and after so long it'll popup a dialogue to save it (just so it doesn't accidentally save over previously existing data you don't want to overwrite) or writes to a different file.

Poping up a dialog to let the user save the file is really annoying because it will interrupt the user's workflow.
For Photoshop, ATopSoft AutoSave can backup (i.e, save the document to another file) the document before saving, so you don't need to worry your original file content be overwritten.
All AutoSave does is in the background, and you even can't notice its action.
