Hi,
I was wondering if anybody knows how to disable the auto-rotate feature in the file browser (CS1's version of Bridge). It detects that an image should be in vertical orientation, so it rotates it in the preview. Can we disable this? It often gets confused and rotates images that shouldn't be rotated. This is a problem because whenever I want to make a web gallery from the file browser, I need to go and re-rotate those images back to their original orientations.
Any help would be appreciated,
Amina

I think the auto-rotation is only done to the File Browser cache thumbnail and not the real file. I could not discover how to disable that, but you could you the Control/Cmd + ] (Rotate clockwise) and Control/Cmd + [ (Rotate counter-clockwise) to fix the rotated thumbnail.

The problem is that I'm dealing with hundreds of files here and I don't want to have to go through all of them and re-rotate the tens or hundreds that got rotated unnecessarily.
It does happen to the thumbnail and not to the actual file but... if I want to make a web gallery, if it's rotated in the file browser, it will be rotated in the gallery. I'm always stuck with making galleries more than once because of this.
Thanks for your help anyways.

I have seen this question before somewhere and there was a way of turning it off, I just can't remember how it was done. I'll have a look later and see if I can figure it out. Wayne

I think Photoshop rotates by reading the rotate tag that the camera would have put in the metadata. You should be able to turn it off on the camera.
I don't know if this is related to the mysterious random rotate that I was getting for a while. Completely unpredictable. I could open the same image on different occassions and it would randomly rotate it or not. It went on for about 6 months and gradually got less and less till it stopped.
However a couple of weeks ago I made a portrait pdf file (not from a camera) saved it and when I reopened it, it decided to open it up landscape. No matter how many times I rerotated it back.
Another option if you can't turn the tag off on the camera is to hack it out of the metadata with ExifTool
