As no Photoshop community would be complete without some smart-alec posting Photoshop's hidden Easter Eggs, and I'm just the pilgrim to do it, here goes:

The Beta version of Photoshop 6 was called Venus in furs - a reference to the book VENUS IN FURS by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (yes, where the term "Masochist" comes from - what are the photoshop engineers trying to tell us?), as well as a super-groovy song by the Velvet Underground. Anyway, on to the hidden Easter Egg:

Windows:

Hold down Ctrl+Alt and then from the top menu go to Help>About Photoshop. Meet Udo the cat (in PS 5/5.5 you could get Udo to Burp and meow).

Mac:

Hold down Command+Option and then go to the apple>about photoshop

PS: There are a couple more!

dlz.

While with a Windows PC you'll need to hold down both the Ctrl key and the Alt key, you are correct in that on a Mac you only need to hold the Command key.

Hey, it's good to see that others besides myself are enjoying the hidden humor embedded in the program by the programmers.
Checking for Easter Eggs is the first thing I do when a new version ships.

There's a really good Easter Egg site: http://www.eeggs.com

I was amazed with this Photoshop Easter Egg when I first heard about it. I can't imagine someone just "stumbling" upon it by accident.

1. Start Photoshop 5.0 application
2. Holding the option and command keys click on "about Photoshop" in the apple menu
3. Take a screen shot of the "strange cargo" splash screen
4. Open the screen shot using Photoshop
5. Go to the channels palette and activate the blue channel only
6. Down in the lower right are of the image is the face of the artist of the splash screen!

This was pasted from the link found on the Photoshop page at the Eeggs.com site ( http://www.eeggs.com/tree/469.html).

I just added one to the Eeggs.com archive that I discovered in KPT Vector Effects.

I'm immortalised!!! Even my misspelling and incomplete phrase. I'm infamous!!!

Additionally, on PS 5 and 5.5's strange cargo screen, type in "Udo" (that's the name of the cat) as well as "burp". Make sure you have your sound turned up.

There exists two other easter eggs in Photoshop (versions 5-6):
Merlin and Transient Witticism's. Try to find them! (-:

Sir Swanky.

I almost fell off my chair laughing as I pictured you saying that!

Now that Julie's gone on vacation for 4 months hiking througout South East Asia, I'll have a lot more time on my hands. (keep the peanut gallery comments for backchannels). (-:

One of my favorite easter eggs is the ImageReady splash screen. First jump to ImageReady from Photoshop. Then hold down the Command key (Mac) or Ctrl+Alt (Windows) as you select About Adobe ImageReady. The splash screen reads "Adobe Pet Wolverine" complete with a great color photo.

A second little goodie in ImageReady is the rubber ducky. Hold down the Option key (Mac) and click in the logo area at the top of the Tools palette. Check it out!

Uh oh, another Rick - Greg's getting panicked!

can't say I blame him...and with what the other rick has posted seems he also has way to much time on his hands and that could really mean trouble..likely the gregmiester is quivering in a cold sweat and a nasty rash, wondering what he did to deserve this cruel punishment...he says he lives a clean life...and works hard and is honest..he really does not deserve this sort of punishment...poor boy...awful way to start a new year..and just when things were coming together so nicely for him...ahhhhhhhhwell..

Well....

Considering the quality of the information Ricks seem to provide I would be happy to find more. I'll turn up the heat, find medication for the rash and as far as the quivers go... I can't blame either of them for that ;).

Mr. Stare,

Just so we are clear. This bit of hazing is just the native's local greeting. Good stuff all around... thanks for contributing. It's great to have you on board.

Sir Swanky Claus.

You never fail to make me laugh; it's good to see that you're taking it well after Greg, Ammar, Raphael, Bruce and I used your credit card to make our Christmas purchases. Thanks for the 1956 Ford Crown Victoria - it will match my 56' Chevy I have in the driveway. I didn't know your credit limit went that high.

Thanks for the welcome. I am always happy to find another Rick out there (of course all Ricks are smart).

Greg, I am glad to have found this forum - your session on "The Tao of Photoshop" was one of my favorites at the 2000 Thunderlizard Photoshop Conference. I teach Photoshop to artists and designers here at Hallmark Cards, and many folks here really love learning new Photoshop shortcuts. Thanks to you and also the Michael Ninness book "Photoshop Power Shortcuts", I came home from that conference with a boatload of tips and shortcuts.

Soooo...

You are a fellow Lizard. Well then, welcome all the more.

Was that the one where I started singing White Christmas on stage? :|

If so, then I commend you for your brave return.

Actually the more we get to know the one and only Tricky Ricky....well ok, not fair...guess better not go there either...but one has to wonder about the extended treks his lovely bride takes to get away...could be a ridlin baby here..which of course is somewhat proven in all these damn things he finds hidden the program...and that brings us to the other rick(stare)..I mean is this a rick thing...
Ok guys I gotta keep it short as for sure I am keeping you away from your prospecting Adobe...you all gotta be almost as weird as the guys that put the stuff there in the first place..like what kind of sick mind has to even go there..
Oh..too much Blue Hawaiian..that must be it..secret braincell killers...and bet most of the program builders and hiders of secret things, names could be rick..hummmmmmm..;}

The funny thing is that my sister was going to go with her so I guess that means even my family wants to get away from me.

My wife's the world traveller - if I didn't have my teaching schedule
I'd have gone with. Although I'd like to go to Europe first. She's lived in Europe so she wanted to see other parts of the world; the extent of my out of the US experience was going surfing in Mexico when I was in the ninth grade.
