I hope someone can help me out here, cause I've tried in 3 or 4 other forums and have
had no luck. : (

When I'm working on Photoshop and I want to add some text, sometimes my fonts won't
be available to use. Why aren't they there? It'll only show one font that I can use. Is there
some option checked or what?

Please help me!

Welcome fodo,

Thanks Dumbasster for the help.

Both on the Mac and the PC, Photoshop looks in your fonts folder on startup to load the
fonts. So first follow Dumbasster's advice and look at the system level to make sure the
fonts are in the Font folder.

If they are but it still isn't working you may need to toss the Photoshop preferences file.
When it gets corrupted strange things can happen. If Photoshop doesn't see a preferences file it generates a nice, fresh new one for you. This often fixes Photoshop weirdness.

hey, thanks for the help. I'll look at the system level, but I don't think that's it, because
they're there SOMETIMES, just not others. : ) It's kinda stupid. They came back today
actually : ) so I'm temporarily happy.

I might try what you suggested Greg if it happens again. Thanks for telling me about that,
cause I had no idea.

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it!

Any time there are font problems, a damaged font is the first suspect.
There are utilities to diagnose and repair fonts.
Font Doctor is my choice on the Mac - the demo will diagnose (just not repair), so you can test for damage for the cost of the download.
Adobe Type Manager Deluxe will check for damaged fonts.
(the font database for ATM can also become damaged)

Mac OS 8.6 has a font manager bug and needs an update available from Apple
or www.alsoft.com - there is an article there about it.

A simple test is to remove 50% of the fonts, restart and test.
Remove those fonts and put the other 50% back, restart and test.
This is true for both platforms.

A search at www.google.com may bring up an article, but I am not aware of a
specific bug or problem.

The Adobe forums at www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html would be a
good place to try.
If Mac platform there is a series of troubleshooting forums at www.macfixit.com that
may help.
For PC platform check out the forums at www.techsurvivors.com/ubb/Forum1/
