Can't paste into pre-masked Unlinked Layer

Hi,

I made a predifined layer mask, removed the link between the content and the layer mask, and I can't paste into the content.

I've had this problem before and the solution was to remove the link, but now photoshop insists in pasting into new layer. Is there any setting to prevent pasting pixels into new layers without working with indexed color?

Photoshop will always paste into a new layer, unless the currently selected layer is completely empty. You need to change the order of operations, so that the paste occurs first, then the application of your pre-made mask. Or just make sure you start with an empty layer.

(I know this is an old post, but I hate seeing unanswered questions :D )
